What Are 3 on 6 Dental Implants in Mexico?

3-on-6 is a full-mouth implant design where 6 implants support 3 fixed bridges — a complete smile with no bulky artificial gums. Most full-arch designs rebuild the gum contour with pink acrylic when bone is lost; the 3-on-6 avoids that block entirely, so the restoration stays ultra-lightweight and the gum line looks natural. It is the design of choice for patients in the US and Canada who reject the pink-gum aesthetic but still want the security of fixed implants.

Who Is 3-on-6 For?

Not every patient wants the same full-arch design. 3-on-6 fits when these matter most.

You want a natural gum line

If the pink artificial gum block of other designs is exactly what you don't want, 3-on-6 keeps the gum line natural and clean.

You hate heavy dentures

6 implants and 3 bridges create a much lighter restoration than bulky acrylic designs — more comfortable in speech and eating.

You want 6 implants and 3 bridges

More implants and bridges mean more support and a stable, fixed result you can bite with confidence.

Fixed result from $13,000

Transparent pricing in USD, no hidden fees, hotel included. An extra implant, if your case needs one, is $900.

3 on 6 vs All on 4: Natural Gum Aesthetics

All on 4 with Pink Gums

  • 4 implants per arch — fewer support points
  • Often uses pink acrylic to rebuild gum contour
  • Heavier prosthetic in most designs
  • The pink block can look artificial up close
  • Typical US cost $27,000–$30,000

Why three bridges instead of one

The segmentation is the whole idea. Here is what splitting the arch into three units buys — and what it costs you.

A shorter span fits more precisely

A one-piece restoration has to seat on all six implants at once, under no tension anywhere. Every implant that ends up a fraction off the planned axis adds strain the framework has to absorb, and that tolerance accumulates along the length of the arch. Three bridges each span a shorter distance and each only has to fit the implants directly beneath it. Less accumulated error, less stress passed into the bone.

You repair a segment, not the arch

Chip a one-piece full arch and the entire restoration goes back to the lab while you wear a provisional. With 3-on-6, the affected bridge is unscrewed and remade while the other two stay in your mouth and keep working. Because the zirconia lab is inside our Cancun clinic, that is a short job with a technician who can look at your bite in person, not a courier round trip between countries.

What you give up: cross-arch splinting

One rigid bridge ties every implant together, so a heavy bite at the back is shared by all of them. Three separate bridges do not share load that way — each unit carries what lands on it. That is the honest trade, and it is exactly why the design asks for six implants in solid bone rather than four: the support has to be local, not borrowed from the far side of the arch.

All three are screwed, not cemented

Each bridge attaches to multi-unit abutments with screws. Nothing is glued, so nothing has to be cut off to be serviced: the access holes are sealed with composite and reopened at check-ups whenever a unit needs to come out for cleaning, a screw retightened, or a segment sent back to the lab. Cemented work does not give you that option.

Six implants need six usable sites — when 3-on-6 is not the answer

The scan decides this, and it decides it before you book a flight.

The back of the jaw has to hold real bone

Because each bridge needs its own support underneath it, the implants cannot all be gathered into the dense bone at the front of the jaw. Some of them belong at the back — which is precisely where bone resorbs first, and where the space is squeezed between the sinus above and the nerve canal below. If your CBCT shows the height is not there, the right answer is not to force six sites into it.

Tilting the rear implants does not rescue a segmented design

A four-implant full arch works around thin posterior bone by angling the back implants forward into denser bone and letting one rigid bridge cantilever backwards over the gap. A segmented design cannot lean on that to the same degree: the rear bridge needs vertical support of its own. This is the single most common reason a patient who asked for 3-on-6 is offered something else.

Untreated infection and uncontrolled disease come first

Active periodontal infection, uncontrolled diabetes and heavy smoking all work against osseointegration, and none of them are improved by placing six implants on top of them. Where a case needs sequencing, Dr. Lugo writes that into the plan instead of quietly booking the surgery. You get the reasoning in writing, in USD, with the price locked for 12 months.

The natural gum line, honestly

This design avoids pink artificial gums. What it cannot do is create tissue that is no longer there.

Where the pink acrylic comes from

When teeth are lost, the bone that held them shrinks with them. A conventional full-arch prosthesis often has to replace not just the crowns but that missing height, and the material used to rebuild it is pink acrylic. That block is what reads as artificial up close and what patients describe as 'looking like a denture'. 3-on-6 leaves it out.

Leaving it out requires ridge height

If your ridge still has height and the teeth can emerge from the gum at roughly natural length, no pink is needed and the transition looks like your own gum line. If height has been lost — years in a denture, long-standing extractions — the choice becomes rebuilding it in pink or accepting longer teeth and visible spaces between the three segments. Both are legitimate. Only one of them is what you came for.

Your lip line decides how much of it shows

How much gum you actually expose when you smile matters more than any measurement on the scan. A low lip line hides the transition entirely; a high one puts it on display. We check it with photographs and again at the try-ins, and you approve tooth length, shape and gum line before a single Prettau block goes into the mill. Two to three try-ins, in our own lab, is where you say no.

Where the extra $1,000 goes

3-on-6 is $13,000 per arch. All-on-6 uses the same six implants and costs $12,000. The difference is not surgical — it is prosthetic. Three separate restorations mean three sets of connections instead of one, three milling and finishing cycles instead of one, and lab time spent verifying that three independent units seat together as one bite rather than checking a single framework once. You are paying for the segmentation itself: the shorter spans, the natural gum line and the ability to remake one third of your arch without touching the rest. If your case needs a seventh implant, it is $900, and it is written into the quote before you fly, not raised in the chair. Every figure is in USD and locked for 12 months.

Living with three separate bridges

Maintenance is different from a one-piece arch, in one helpful way and two you should plan for.

Two gaps you can actually clean

A continuous full arch has to be cleaned by threading floss or a water flosser tip under the entire span from one end. With three bridges there are two open spaces between the segments, and each is a direct entry point to the tissue underneath. Most patients find the routine quicker: a water flosser twice a day, aimed along the gum line and through both gaps.

Three sets of screws to keep an eye on

More units means more screw joints, and screw joints are the part of any implant restoration most likely to need attention. A loosened screw usually announces itself as a slight movement or a click on one side long before anything else happens. Caught early it is a retightening appointment; ignored, it lets the unit micro-move and that is what damages components.

A night guard is not optional here

Grinding concentrates force on whichever segment your bite lands on hardest, without the rest of the arch to absorb it. A night guard is included with the final restoration, and wearing it is the single cheapest thing you can do to protect the work. If you know you grind heavily, say so at the consultation — it changes what we recommend.

Why patients choose us for 3 on 6 dental implants

Lower overhead, not lower standards. The difference is where the money goes, not what goes in your mouth.

A surgeon operates, not a general dentist

Dr. Omar Lugo is a board-certified Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon (D.D.S., M.S.) with 25+ years and 8,000+ American and Canadian patients. He plans your case on the CBCT, performs the surgery himself and signs off the prosthetics. Nothing is delegated.

The same implants as the USA

FDA-approved Nobel Biocare, Straumann and BioHorizons — the systems placed in American offices every day, with a lifetime warranty on the implant. No unbranded posts, no systems you cannot get serviced back home.

Our own zirconia lab, on site

Monolithic Prettau milled from a single block on five axes, with 2 to 3 try-ins. No outsourcing, no courier delays, no middleman markup — and a technician who can walk into the surgery and look at your bite in person.

A written price, locked

Your quote arrives in USD before you book a flight, itemised, with what you need and what you do not. It is locked for 12 months. No verbal estimate that changes when you are in the chair with your teeth already out.

Why Cancun for 3 on 6 dental implants

Not just the price. The flight, the hotel, the recovery and the protocol.

2 to 4 hours, non-stop

Direct flights from Miami (~2h), Houston (~2.5h) and Dallas (~3h). You leave in the morning and you are at the clinic the same day — closer than driving across some US states for the same treatment.

Hotel and transfers included

Six nights at Fiesta Inn Cumbres for two guests, plus airport pickup and daily transport to the clinic. Your companion travels at no extra cost, and the clinic is a short walk away.

You recover on a beach

Post-surgical rest happens somewhere warm with good food and no work email, instead of at home juggling the school run. Patients consistently report it is the part they underestimated.

An implant-only centre

Not a general clinic that also does implants. IV sedation, Navident guided surgery, hospital-grade sterilisation and the Malo Clinic protocol — the same standards, in a city built for international patients.
