A single gap is the one situation where the cheapest treatment today is often the most expensive one over fifteen years, because two of the four options spend healthy tooth structure or bone to solve the problem. Single implant — $1,600
A titanium post replaces the root, and a zirconia crown replaces the tooth. The neighbouring teeth are never touched: no drilling, no reshaping, nothing glued to them. Because the post loads the bone when you chew, the ridge at that site keeps being used instead of shrinking. It is the only option of the four that treats the missing root and not just the missing crown.
Three-unit bridge
The two healthy teeth beside the gap are ground down to posts and capped, carrying a false tooth between them. It is faster and needs no surgery, which is why it is still offered. The cost is structural: you spend two intact teeth to replace one, both of them now need root canals more often than untouched teeth, and if either abutment fails later you are replacing three units, not one.
Removable partial
An acrylic or flexible plate with a false tooth, clipped to the remaining teeth and taken out at night. The cheapest option in the short term and a reasonable holding measure while you decide, or while a graft site heals. It moves when you eat, the clasps put sideways force on the teeth they hook onto, and it does nothing for the bone underneath.
Leaving the gap
A defensible choice for a wisdom tooth or a second molar with a healthy tooth in front of it. Not defensible for a gap in the middle of an arch: the tooth behind tips forward, the tooth above or below drifts down into the space, and your bite changes shape around the hole. What starts as one missing tooth becomes a planning problem across three or four.

The upside: the bone at the back of the lower jaw is usually dense, which is good for stability. The planning question there is width, not shade.
Upper molars sit under the sinus
The floor of the maxillary sinus drops down over the upper back teeth, and after an extraction there it tends to drop further. If the CBCT shows too little height between the ridge and the sinus, the honest answer is that the site needs a sinus lift or a graft before an implant goes in, quoted separately and written into your plan. We would rather tell you that from the scan than discover it with you in the chair.

An implant is not a tooth that needs no maintenance. Three things account for most late problems, and all three are manageable if you know about them. A crown screw can loosen, which feels like slight movement and is a ten-minute retighten, not a failure — tell your dentist early rather than chewing on it. A zirconia crown can chip under heavy grinding, which is why we ask about clenching and why a night guard is worth it if you grind. And the gum around an implant can become inflamed and lose bone if plaque is left at the margin, which is the one failure mode you genuinely control: floss or brush around it daily and keep your regular cleanings at home.
