What the destination does not change
The implant system, the surgeon's training and the lab that builds your arch decide the outcome — not the city. A border clinic using Nobel Biocare with a specialist operating is a better choice than a resort clinic using an unbranded system. Judge the clinic first, the map second.

Ask these before you pay anything
- Who performs the surgery, by name, and what is their specialty? A dental degree is not a surgical specialty. In Mexico a specialist holds a separate professional licence for the specialty — ask for it.
- Which implant system, and will you give me the packaging labels with the lot numbers afterwards? You need that record so any dentist at home can service the work.
- Who makes the prosthetics, and where? An outsourced lab means couriers between try-ins, and try-ins are what make the bite fit.
- Can I have an itemised quote in USD, before I fly, and how long is it held?
- What is not included — flights, extra hotel nights, the second trip, future adjustments?
- If the CBCT shows something different on day 1, which items can be added and at what price?
- Can I see cases three years after delivery, not only day-one photographs?
- Am I speaking to the clinic or to an agency that books for several clinics?
- Who answers at nine on a Sunday night when I am back home and worried?

You travel as a tourist
A valid passport is what US and Canadian citizens need to fly to Mexico, and immigration issues your entry record on arrival. There is no special permission to obtain for dental treatment and no paperwork we file on your behalf. Check your passport expiry now, not the week you fly — renewals take longer than you think.
Bring someone with you
After IV sedation you should not be navigating an airport or a hotel alone, and for the first two days you will want another pair of hands. The package includes six nights for two guests at Fiesta Inn Cumbres and the airport transfers for both of you, so the companion costs you a plane ticket and nothing else.
Why you fly home on day 6
The schedule is not padded to sell hotel nights. Surgery is day 2; the days that follow are for swelling to peak and settle, for the bite to be checked and for your temporary teeth to be fitted and verified. Flying the morning after a full-arch surgery leaves no room to fix a problem on the ground.
Medication and records
Post-operative medication is included and dispensed here. Carry it in the original packaging in your hand luggage with the written prescription, and keep the itemised receipt and your imaging. Your file — CBCT, implant references, prosthetic details — travels home with you so any dentist can read what was done.
What your dental plan will and will not do
We are not in network with US or Canadian insurers and we cannot bill them. We issue an itemised receipt so you can file for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan allows it. Ask your plan two things before you fly: does it reimburse care received outside the country, and what is the annual maximum. On full-arch work that maximum is usually small next to the total.
Travel insurance is not dental insurance
Travel medical policies are written for accidents and sudden illness abroad. Elective, planned treatment is typically excluded, and so is anything arising from it. Read the exclusions rather than the brochure, and if trip cancellation matters to you, buy that separately and early.
The Uncomfortable Part: Who Should Not Fly for This
Dental tourism suits most people who ask about it. It does not suit everyone, and the honest conversation is cheaper before the flight than after.
Reconsider, or talk to us first, if
- You cannot commit to the second trip. In the two-trip plan the teeth you fly home with are temporaries. They are fixed and you eat with them, but they are not the final restoration.
- You have a medical condition that is not currently controlled. Diabetes, blood pressure and anticoagulation are manageable, but we ask for clearance from the physician who treats you.
- You are taking, or recently took, intravenous bone medication. It is a surgical decision made case by case with your oncologist or physician, not a form to tick.
- You smoke heavily and do not intend to stop through healing. Smoking works against integration, and pretending otherwise helps nobody.
- You need to be back at a desk two days after surgery. Six days is the trip; the week after is quiet food and rest.
- Nobody has seen an image of your jaw. Send a panoramic before you shop on price — bone is what decides the plan.
What can go wrong, and how distance is handled
- The CBCT shows less bone than expected. The plan changes on day 1, before surgery, in writing: an additional implant is $900 and a zygomatic implant $4,500 when the upper jaw is too resorbed to hold a standard one.
- An implant does not integrate during healing. A 98.2% success rate means it is uncommon, not impossible. It is confirmed on imaging and addressed surgically; the implants carry a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer.
- A screw loosens or a temporary chips while you are at home. Most of these are short appointments. Your coordinator triages by photo first, arranges a local visit where one will do, and books you in here when it will not.
- The lab needs another try-in. That costs a day, occasionally a night. We would rather hold the arch back than deliver a bite that is nearly right.
